Meet Our Founder

David Keen founded Mighty Plant after more than 50 years spent developing innovative products for the horticulture and agricultural industry. From studying Agronomy, Plant Physiology, and Biochemistry at the University of Florida to helping introduce groundbreaking technologies used by growers around the world, David’s career has always centered around one thing: helping plants perform at their highest potential.

After building and selling a successful agricultural company, David’s love for horticulture and gardening ultimately brought him out of retirement to launch Mighty Plant with a new mission — creating advanced organic plant nutrition designed to work at the cellular level. One of the first innovations developed through Mighty Plant was Instant Compost Tea™, a fast, water-soluble bio-stimulant that reimagined traditional compost tea for modern growers. Today, his formulations combine decades of scientific experience with a passion for healthier plants, stronger harvests, and more sustainable growing practices.

The Road to Mighty Plant

A Defining Chapter

Right out of high school, David Keen spent a year in Vietnam — an experience that completely changed the direction of his life. The challenges he faced there taught him resilience, discipline, and the ability to adapt under pressure.

Those lessons stayed with him long after returning home and became the foundation for the determination, persistence, and work ethic that would later shape Mighty Plant.

Decades of Innovation

David Keen began his career with Geigy Chemical, a pioneering Swiss company that would later become part of Syngenta, now one of the largest agricultural companies in the world. Over the decades that followed, he helped introduce and develop products and technologies that growers around the world still rely on today.

The Move Toward Organic Growing

After decades in conventional agriculture, David Keen saw firsthand both the strengths and the limitations of traditional chemical growing. Over time, he became increasingly interested in creating products that could deliver exceptional performance while working more naturally with the biology of plants and soil.

That vision led to the founding of Organic Laboratories, where David began developing natural solutions designed to perform at the same level as conventional products. What started with mixing organic insecticides in a five-gallon bucket eventually grew into a nationally distributed company with large-scale manufacturing and automated production facilities.

Today, that same philosophy continues through Mighty Plant — developing advanced biologicals and organic plant nutrition that combine strong performance with a more natural, soil-focused approach to growing.
